Despite events that may have sent investors ducking for cover in the past, the equity markets continued their resiliency through the first quarter. U.S. equity markets were up double digits with the Dow Jones Industrial Average closing at a record high during the quarter, exceeding the record set in October 2007. The U.S. economy also continued to rebound, with the improving housing market being the focal point. The job market improved with jobless claims coming in at a five-year low and manufacturing continued the upward trend.
